Jean Cocteau's

Pantomime Farce
“Le Boeuf sur le Toit”

The Scenario
“Le Boeuf sur le Toit” arrived in Paris in 1920 as a farcical pantomime play with a bizarre script by Jean Cocteau, oversized masks and props by Raoul Dufy and a catchy musical score by Darius Milhaud.

The pantomime farce “Le Boeuf sur le Toit” arrived in the 21st Century with a fantastic, eclectic production by T. Daniel Productions!

The interplay of Cocteau’s story with Milhaud’s lively music and Daniel’s & Willets’ cleverly choreographed Mime movements and staging is extraordinary. With oversized masks to bring out the humor of each gesture, the total comprehension between the actions on stage, the sound of the music, and the captive spirit of the audience is an experience not to be missed!
A Delightful Story
Told In Mime and Music!
This is a captivating visit to the “Do Nothing Bar” during Prohibition to see the fascinating Characters who inhabit the bar. The humor is infectious as this cast of characters goes about their business to the Brazilian inspired Music of Darius Milhaud.

As Jean Cocteau so aptly said: “This is just an American Bar during Prohibition viewed by a Parisian who has never been to America.”

Arriving at the bar is a Negro Boxer, a Negro Boy, A well-dressed lady, a bookie, a gentleman and a lady with red hair. All are served bottles of liquor by the bartender. Everyone is having a great time in each of his or her own manner with activities that ranged from playing pool, playing dice, smoking, flirting and dancing. Then a policeman arrives to enforce the prohibition on liquor. In a frenzy the bar switches from bottles to glasses on milk! As the policeman checks to be sure it is milk, the Barman lowers the spinning fan to cut off the policeman’s head. The bar once again becomes lively.

As each character exits the bar and the evening winds down, the Barman revives the policeman and presents him with an enormous bill.

This simple story is presented in the movement of Mime, with characters developed by the movement and the oversize masks.
